What Is Diabetes?
Diabetes mellitus (DM), generally known as simply diabetes, is a set of metabolic disorders characterized by a high blood sugar level over a prolonged duration. Diabetes mellitus type 1 results when the pancreas no longer produces considerable amounts of the hormone insulin, usually owing to the autoimmune demolition of the insulin-producing beta cells of the pancreas. Diabetes mellitus type 2 is now believed to result from autoimmune attacks on the pancreas and/or insulin resistance. The pancreas of a person with type 2 diabetes may be producing normal or even abnormally big amounts of insulin. Different conditions of diabetes mellitus may describe some combination of insufficient insulin production and insulin opposition. Some degree of insulin opposition may also be present in a person with type 1 diabetes.
Diabetes Management
The major purpose of diabetes management and management is, as far as possible, to restore carbohydrate metabolism to a normal state. To complete this goal, people with an absolute deficiency of insulin require insulin replacement therapy. Insulin resistance, in contrast, can be corrected by dietary modifications and exercise. Other purposes of diabetes management are to control or treat the many difficulties that can result from the disorder itself and from its therapy.
Because high blood sugar caused by poorly controlled diabetes can lead to a plethora of immediate and long-term complications, it is critical to maintaining blood sugars as close to normal as possible, and a diet that produces more controllable blood sugar spikes is an important factor in producing normal blood sugars.
