About Strength
Strength sports encompass a variety of activities that focus on strength, power, and endurance, such as weightlifting, powerlifting, strongman/strongwoman, bodybuilding, CrossFit, and more. Muscular strength is the ability of muscles to apply force and is crucial for strength-based sports and overall health. It can be developed through resistance machines and free weights.
There are several types of strength: maximum (greatest force generated), explosive (maximum force in minimum time), and muscular endurance (sustained force). Other types include reactive (quick eccentric to concentric contraction), agile (controlled movement), speed (maximum load at high speed), starting (power without momentum), relative (max strength to body mass ratio), general (whole muscular system), and specific (activity or sport-specific).
Strength and Performance is also classified based on muscle contractions: concentric (shortening under tension), eccentric (lengthening under tension), and isometric (unchanged length under tension). Strength training can involve simple single-joint movements or complex multi-joint movements, and its development is essential for both sports performance and overall health.
